HIGH SCHOOL TENNIS: Indiana boys win season opener
LOWER BURRELL — Indiana won its season opener by defeating Burrell, 4-1, in a WPIAL Section 4-AA boys’ tennis match Friday.
John Appolonia and Jimin Chun each won in singles play for Indiana. The doubles team of Caleb McCombie and Kellen Short notched a win, and the team of Badi Zhou and Jared Fleming followed suit.
“The wind can be a great equalizer in tennis matches as it forces players to make all kinds of adaptations,” Indiana coach Phil Palko said. “Shots that on a calm day have no chance of hitting the court magically seem to blow into play. Jared Fleming had to chase a shot around the net post which is a pretty rare feat. It was a nice win to start the season.”
Indiana plays host to Valley on Monday.
