HIGH SCHOOL VOLLEYBALL: Indians improve to 9-0 with sweep of Golden Lions

Indiana improved to 9-0 by sweeping Greensburg Salem, 25-16, 25-23, 25-11, in a WPIAL Section 3-AA girls’ volleyball match Tuesday in Greensburg.

Aaryn Gray powered Indiana with 15 kills. Natalie Cignetti added 11 kills.

Greensburg Salem won the junior varsity match, 2-0.

Indiana, which improved to 6-0 in section play, welcomes Kittanning on Thursday.

 

PENNS MANOR 3, UNITED 1: Once-beaten Penns Manor lost Game 1 but then reeled off three straight wins to best United, 24-26, 25-16, 25-17, 25-23, in a Heritage Conference match in Kenwood.

Sarah DaBella paced Penns Manor with 16 kills and 19 digs. Heather Aikens added 14 kills and nine digs, Mary Roach had nine kills and nine digs, Taylor Rainey chipped in eight kills and Mallory Drahnak notched 41 assists.

Mechin Flowers led United with seven kills and three blocks. Lyda Bartlebaugh added 22 digs and three aces, Hannah Stephens had 15 assists and Daeva Simmons notched 18 digs for the Lions.

The Comets won the junior varsity match, 25-18, 26-24.

Both teams play Thursday. Penns Manor (8-1) plays host to Northern Cambria, and United travels to Blairsville.

 

PURCHASE LINE 3, HOMER-CENTER 0: Host Purchase Line swept past Homer-Center, 25-21, 25-21, 25-9, in a Heritage Conference match.

Amy Elling, who notched her 1,000th career assist, led Purchase Line with 18 assists. Jaycelyn Fleming added six kills and three blocks, Allison Goodlin had six kills and six digs, and Mikhala Stover chipped in five kills and nine digs.

Becca Carnahan tacked on 12 service points and four aces, and Megan Hudson had 11 service points and four aces for the Red Dragons.

Purchase Line won the junior varsity match, 25-23, 25-15.

Purchase Line (5-4) plays host to Cambria Heights tonight. Homer-Center welcomes Ligonier Valley on Thursday.

 

WEST SHAMOKIN 3, TRINITY CHRISTIAN 0: West Shamokin ran its record to 7-1 by sweeping Trinity Christian, 25-12, 25-20, 25-14, in a WPIAL Section 1-A match in NuMine.

Amanda Wensel led West Shamokin with nine kills. Carmen Riggle added six kills and five blocks, Kristen Templeton chipped in 28 digs, and Kelly Clowser and Alecia Calhoun each had six kills.

Trinity won the junior varsity match, 2-0.

West Shamokin travels to St. Joseph on Thursday.
