HIGH SCHOOL VOLLEYBALL ROUNDUP: Northern Cambria senior provides lift on emotional Senior Night

by The Indiana Gazette on October 18, 2013 10:35 AM

Senior Night was an extra-special occasion for one Northern Cambria senior in particular.

Kelly Lieb, who suffered a stroke last summer, made her return to the volleyball court to play in the Colts’ 25-17, 25-19, 25-16 victory over Purchase Line in a Heritage Conference girls’ volleyball match Thursday night at Ted Keenan Memorial Gym.

“It was just an awesome, awesome scene for her to get in there tonight,” Northern Cambria coach Mike Hogan said.

Lieb earned all-district honors as Northern Cambria’s starting libero as a junior last year. She played in Games 1 and 2 Thursday.

“Everybody was so excited to see her back in the lineup,” Hogan said. “The doctors cleared her and we got her out there for her Senior Night. There are some things more important than volleyball, and that’s definitely one of them.”

Lakyn Fornari led Northern Cambria with 15 kills and Renee Paronish added five. Alyssa Walters dished out 18 assists and Paige Benton scored 15 service points.

Jaycelyn Fleming led Purchase Line with seven kills and three blocks.
