HOMER-CENTER 15, PURCHASE LINE 0: Homer-Center banged out 10 hits and generated more than enough run support for Andrew Gaydosh to tally a shutout win over visiting Purchase Line in a Heritage Conference game at First Commonwealth Field.

The game was shortened to three innings due to the 10-run mercy rule.

Austin Fairman put Homer-Center on the board in the opening inning when he belted a two-run inside-the-park home run.

An inning later, the Homer-Center sent 16 batters to the plate and scored 12 runs, cranking the lead to 14-0.

Darren Carr paced Homer-Center by going 2-for-2 with two RBIs. Nate Wilden and Ean Lee each singled and drove in a run.

Gaydosh fired a three-hitter, striking out six and walking one.

Both teams play today. Homer-Center (8-5, 8-4) travels to Ligonier Valley, and Purchase Line (1-11) plays host to Marion Center.

APOLLO-RIDGE 2, WEST SHAMOKIN 1: Apollo-Ridge delivered the last blow in a pitchers’ duel that featured 27 strikeouts in a WPIAL Section 3-AA game in NuMine.

Winning pitcher Mike Percic fired a one-hitter, striking out 13 and walking one.

Losing pitcher Anthony Rocco threw a four-hitter. He struck out 14 and walked one.

With the game knotted 1-1 in the fourth inning, Apollo-Ridge’s Sam Held ripped a double to score Delbert Brown for the eventual game-winning run.

Apollo-Ridge (9-9, 5-5) travels to Burrell on Monday, and West Shamokin (2-11, 1-8) visits Deer Lakes today.
