H.S. FOOTBALL: Blairsville 24, Northern Cambria 19

on September 20, 2013 11:13 PM

BLAIRSVILLE — Deion Robinson rushed for 182 yards to account for most of Blairsville’s offense, the Bobcats got three big plays from their special teams and they held off Northern Cambria for a win in first-year coach Rick Artley’s first encounter with his alma mater.

Robinson scored on touchdown runs of 8 and 28 yards in the second half for the Bobcats, who were playing without starting quarterback Scott Thompson. Thompson was hurt in an off-field freak accident and will miss at least two more weeks. Jaylin Rydbom started against Northern Cambria and scored on a 1-yard quarterback sneak in the first quarter.

Blairsville fell behind early in both halves. Northern Cambria took a 6-0 lead on quarterback Dartagnan Suchar’s 1-yard sneak midway through the first quarter.

Rydbom matched Suchar with his short touchdown, and freshman kicker Andrew Stipcak added a 25-yard field goal in the final minute of the first half as Blairsville took a 10-6 lead into the locker room.

Northern Cambria took its only lead of the second half, 12-10, on Suchar’s second touchdown, a 13-yarder with 5:57 to play in the third quarter.

Blairsville regained the lead less than a minute later when Robinson scored his first touchdown from 8 yards. The Bobcats got a 71-yard kickoff return from Cameron Livingston to set them up at Northern Cambria’s 16-yard line.

With 7:08 to play in the game, Robinson turned a broken play into a highlight-reel 28-yard touchdown run that gave the Bobcats a 24-12 lead.

Northern Cambria got within 24-19 on backup quarterback Tyler Pershing’s 62-yard touchdown pass to Joe Olish with 4:29 to play.

The Colts got the ball back at their own 20 with 1:54 to play, but Pershing was intercepted near midfield with 1:07 to play, and Blairsville ran out the clock to improve to 3-1.

Suchar led the Colts with 88 rushing yards, and Nolan Paronish had 86.
