H.S. FOOTBALL: Brookville 25, Punxsutawney 22
Zach Vroman rushed for 300 yards on 19 carries and scored on three long runs to lead Brookville past Punxsutawney and give the Raiders the Route 36 Trophy in a Keystone Shortway Athletic Conference football game.
Vroman scored on runs of 53, 52 and 76 yards.
Punxsutawney answered Brookville’s first score when Matt Burkett hooked up with Clayton Dale on a 9-yard scoring play.
After Vroman dashed for his second touchdown, Punxsutawney’s Christian Falgout scored on a 3-yard run that was set up by Burkett’s 24-yard strike to Dale.
Vroman scored again to give Brookville an 18-14 lead.
Punxsutawney had a chance to score after taking over with 1:03 left in the first half, but Burkett was intercepted after the Chucks drove inside the 10-yard line.
Brookville scored on its first possession of the second half on quarterback Bobby McGranor’s 1-yard keeper, and the Raiders extended the lead to 25-14.
Punxs’y got back into the game after recovering a muffed punt, scoring when Burkett hit Parker Weaver with an 18-yard strike. Dakota Thomas scored on the two-point conversion to cut the margin to three, 25-22.
The Chucks had one last chance late in the game after Vroman fumbled, but Burkett fumbled at his own 35, and Brookville recovered and used three plays to run out the clock.
Burkett finished 9-for-18 for 94 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions. Dale had five catches for 67 yards. Falgout gained 97 yards on 15 carries.
Punxsutawney plays host to Union on Friday.
