H.S. FOOTBALL: Ligonier Valley 29, Marion Center 8
LIGONIER — Ligonier Valley quarterback Scott Fennell hit Alec Bloom for three touchdowns, helping the Rams earn a win over Marion Center in a Heritage Conference football game Friday at Weller Field.
Fennell put the Rams on the board first when he connected with Bloom on a seam pass that went for a 48-yard score just 3:59 into the game.
Just 1:15 later, and following a Marion Center turnover, Daniel Croyle scored on a 1-yard run to stretch Ligonier Valley’s lead to 13-0. Dereck Croyle scored on a two-point conversion run to make it 15-0.
Marion Center answered on its first possession of the second quarter by driving 64 yards on nine plays for a touchdown to cut the Rams’ lead to 15-6. Quarterback Blake Orr finished the drive with a 1-yard run with 8:59 to go in the first half.
Noah Hoover scored on a two-point conversion run to trim Ligonier Valley’s lead to 15-8.
But Ligonier Valley responded and marched 80 yards on 14 plays on its next possession to score another touchdown and take a 22-8 lead with 1:55 to go in the first half. Fennell fired a 9-yard pass to Bloom to cap the drive.
Then, on their first possession of the second half, the Rams drove 85 yards on 13 plays and scored their fourth touchdown to make it a 29-8 game.
Fennell finished 7 of 14 passing for 123 yards, and Bloom caught five balls for 84 yards.
Zach Edwards led Marion Center with 73 yards rushing on 17 attempts.
