H.S. FOOTBALL: Purchase Line 47, United 6
PURCHASE LINE — Grant Syster rushed for 195 yards and two touchdowns to lead Purchase Line to a sharp win over winless United in a Heritage Conference football game Friday night.
Syster, who went over 1,000 yards on the season, scored his second touchdown on his final rushing attempt of the game, a 40-yard run, with 6:49 left in the second quarter. The Red Dragons dominated in the first half and cruised to a 40-0 lead at the break.
Syster scored Purchase Line’s first touchdown at the 6:42 mark in the first quarter on a 1-yard run, and quarterback Alec Sunderlin added a 1-yard touchdown at the 2:21 mark. Syster then scored his 40-yarder to put the Red Dragons up 21-0.
Purchase Line then scored on its next two plays from scrimmage, a 56-yard run by Hunter Rice and a 48-yard run by Todd Greene. The defense then forced a three-and-out, and Green scored two plays later on a 50-yard run to give the Red Dragons a running clock for the entire second half.
The Lions didn’t manage a first down and were held to minus-12 yards in the first half.
Green tacked on an 8-yard touchdown run with 1:39 left in the third quarter to put the Red Dragons up 47-0.
United, which has lost 17 straight games, scored on a 23-yard pass from Jesse Beacker to Kolt Jarvis with 3:50 remaining in the game. The touchdown capped a 73-yard drive on the Lions’ final possession of the game.
