HS TRACK AND FIELD: Ligonier Valley dominates meet

The Ligonier Valley boys’ and girls’ track and field teams swept Marion Center and Northern Cambria in a triangular Heritage Conference meet Thursday in Marion Center.

The Ligonier Valley boys’ team defeated Marion Center, 132-19, and Northern Cambria, 103-47. Northern Cambria beat Marion Center, 120-25.

The Ligonier Valley girls’ team bested Marion Center, 120-28, and Northern Cambria, 102-48. Northern Cambria beat Marion Center, 93-43.

Stuart Urch led the Ligonier Valley boys with wins in the shot put and the discus. Justin Piper won the 110 hurdles and the 300 hurdles, Dylan Jackman placed first in the 800 and Jon Finger took the 200.

Derek Bearer paced the Northern Cambria boys with wins in the 400 and the 100. Gus Yahner won the pole vault, Tyler Olish took the high jump, and Mark Ludwig placed first in the javelin.

Kyle Anderson finished first in the 3,200 to lead the Marion Center boys.

No other individual results were available to the Gazette.

 

VIKINGS SWEEP: Apollo-Ridge swept Ford City in a WPIAL Section 7-AA meet Wednesday in Spring Church.

First-place finishers from the Apollo-Ridge boys’ team were Damon Blystone (110 hurdles), Charlie Thompson (400), Jesse Zelonka (shot put), Matt Tamski (3,200), Chanse Nappier (long jump) and Dom Schrecengost (triple jump).

Also, the Vikings won the 3,200 and the 1,600 relays. The 3,200 relay team consisted of Tamski, Kyle Murray, Dylan Flickinger and Tory Milligan, and the 1,600 relay team was made up of Murray, Schrecengost, Flickinger and Thompson.

Reannah Martin paced the girls’ team with wins in the 100 and the pole vault. Other first-place finishers were Ashley Worst (1,600 and 3,200), Claire Broman (100 hurdles), Emelia Weinel (200), Megan Bonelli (400), Sarah Bonelli (800), Joyce Daugherty (discus), Ariana Coleman (javelin) and Tarah Baylor (high jump). The Vikings also won the 3,200 and 1,600 relays.

The 3,200 relay team was made up of Sarah Bonelli, Bailey White, Rachel Sproat and Worst, and the 1,600 relay team consisted of Megan Bonelli, Broman, Gillian Tones and Sarah Bonelli.

Apollo-Ridge travels to Shadyside Academy on Tuesday.
