INDIANA COUNTY LEAGUE: Colts jump on New Derry

BLAIRSVILLE — Blairsville jumped on New Derry early and cruised to an 8-4 victory in an Indiana County League baseball game Wednesday evening at One River Field.

The Colts plated four runs in the first inning, three on Scott Thompson’s home run, and held a comfortable lead throughout.

Ben Doak went 3-for-4 with a double for Blairsville. Thompson had two hits, and Andrew Gilmore and Ryan Bernat had two hits and two runs each. Doak, Gilmore, Bernat, Brock Harsh and Romulus Marino each doubled.

Steve Janik picked up the win with one strikeout and two walks in four innings.

Cory Gearhart went 2-for-4 with a double to pace New Derry, which beat the Colts, 5-4, on Tuesday.

Jonathan Santoro had no strikeouts and two walks in 3 1-3 innings, taking the loss.

Blairsville concluded the regular season in second place at 14-9-1. New Derry (9-13) plays host to Apollo tonight.
