IUP holds Pidgeon lead
The IUP swimming teams won five events and held onto their leads on the second day of the Pidgeon Invitational at Memorial Field House.
The women’s team won three events and notched 10 qualifying times.
Allyson Mitidieri won two events, the 400-yard individual medley (4 minutes, 38.56 seconds) and 100 breaststroke (1:08.41). She met the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference qualifying standard in both events. IUP also won the 200 medley relay.
IUP chalked up 987.5 points. Saint Vincent is second at 633, and Lock Haven is third at 516.5 points.
In the men’s meet, IUP won two events and put up 15 conference qualifying times. Steve Long was IUP’s only individual winner, taking the 100 butterfly with a qualifying time of 50.48. In addition, Ben Adams (52.72) and Bobby Sciscento (54.24) qualified in the event.
Qualifying in the 400 individual medley and 100 breaststroke were Zack Fountain (4:19.58, 59.31), Brandon Hopkins (4:16.10, 1:01.70) and Vincent Hall (4:31.04, 1:00.32). Matthew Nakagama (4:23.08) and Alex Cattafesta (4:35.81) also qualified in the 400 individual medley, and Alex Cummings (1:01.92) qualified in the 100 breaststroke. IUP also won the 200 medley relay in 1:36.79. IUP recorded 1,011.50 points and leads Wheeling Jesuit (815.5) and Saint Vincent (712).
The final day of the event began this morning, and the finals were set for 3 p.m.
