IUP ROUNDUP: Coach to be inducted into Clemson hall
IUP head track and field coach Michelle Burgher will be inducted into the Clemson Athletic Hall of Fame today.
Burgher was a member of the 4x400-meter relay team that won the outdoor national championship in 2001. She was named All-American in that
event as well as the 4x100-meter relay and the indoor 4x400-meter relay.
Burgher also locked up numerous Atlantic Coast Conference awards that year, winning outdoor championships in the 4x100 and 4x400 relays and in an indoor championship in the 4x400 relay. Individually, she was an outdoor champion in the 400-meter hurdles and earned All-ACC honors in the indoor and outdoor 400-meter dash.
Burgher was also an IAAF world champion in the 4x400 relay in 2001.
Burgher joined the staff at IUP as an assistant in 2008 and became the head coach in 2011.
The Hall of Fame class, which includes five All-Americans, two national champions, three ACC 50-Year Anniversary team members, a two-time ACC Coach of the Year and one of the school’s best two-sport athletes, will be honored during the Boston College-Clemson football game today.
VOLLEYBALL: IUP lost at Gannon, 25-17, 25-17, 25-17, in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference match at the Hammermill Center in Erie on Friday.
Gannon improved to 11-6.
Ericka Lentz and Elizabeth Sova each led IUP with eight kills apiece. Lindsay Moeller had 25 assists, and Barnes had a 14 digs.
IUP (4-15) plays at Mercyhurst this afternoon.
