JUNIOR HIGH BASKETBALL: Blairsville girls score win

BLAIRSVILLE — Rena Enterline scored a season-high 26 points to lead Blairsville to a 60-11 win over Marion Center in a ninth-grade girls’ basketball game Thursday.

Faith Yanoff scored 16 points for Blairsville. Catherine Martin added nine points. Jackie Fetsko and Mariah Strittmatter scored three points apiece for Marion Center.

Blairsville won the seventh- and eighth-grade game, 26-8, to improve 8-0.

Marion Center (2-8) travels to Purchase Line on Thursday. Blairsville (10-1) plays host to Penns Manor on Tuesday.

Blairsville CC teams earn wins

KENWOOD — The Blairsville boys’ and girls’ cross country teams swept Penns Manor in a Heritage Conference meet Wednesday.

The Blairsville boys’ and girls’ teams each beat Penns Manor, 15-50.

Alex Horchar finished second in the boys’ race to lead Blairsville. Other top 10 finishers were Ryan Horchar (third), Austin McLean (fourth), Derek Rocks (fifth), Ayrton Lamanta (sixth), Jared Uncapher (seventh) and Hunter Cunningham (10th).

J.T. Horwat won the boys’ race with a time of 17 minutes, 51 seconds for Penns Manor (1-2). Kyle Templeton placed eighth and T.J. Midock took ninth.

Taylor Koches won the girls’ race with a time of 23:57 for Blairsville. Allyson Smathers finished second.

Morgan Johnston finished third to pace Penns Manor (1-2). Devon Bratton took fourth, Brianna Lockard finished fifth, Lisa Coy placed sixth, and Kendra Voorhies finished seventh.

Both compete again Wednesday. Penns Manor travels to Marion Center and Blairsville heads to United.

Derry drops tennis match

DERRY — Mount Pleasant nipped Derry, 3-2, in a WPIAL Section 1-AA girls’ tennis match Thursday.

Hunter Hudson and Maria Palombo each won in straight sets for Derry.

Derry (7-4 section) plays host to Brownsville on Monday.
