Patriots fall in title games

CLYMER — Three Calvary Baptist players scored in double figures, but the Patriots still came up short in a 57-43 loss to Demascus Christian Academy in the Keystone Christian Education Association boys’ basketball state championship game Saturday.

Joel Knupp posted a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Patriots. Andy Knupp and Tyler Chambers added 10 points apiece.

Nehemiah Jones put up a game-high 24 points for Demascus Christian, which held an 18-8 lead after the first quarter. The Patriots never recovered.

In Friday’s semifinal, Calvary Baptist beat Walnut Street Christian, 76-58.

Jerry Zhang scored a career-high 29 points, and Joel Knupp finished with 19. Isaiah Sharp totaled 13 points, 13 rebounds and four assists.

Calvary Baptist ended its season with an 18-5 record.

• The Calvary Baptist girls’ team lost to Walnut Street Christian, 44-28, in the KCEA state championship game.

The Patriots were held to just four points in the second quarter and went 0-for-1 from the free throw line.

Megan Plants and Rachel Covato scored 10 points each for Calvary Baptist, and Kayla Chambers had eight points and 10 rebounds. Walnut Street’s Emily Howell led all scorers with 19 points. The Patriots finished with a 16-4 record.
