YOUNG TOWNSHIP 14, MARION CENTER 0: Young Township raced to a 9-0 lead in the first inning and racked up 12 hits to shut down Marion Center in a game that was shortened to five innings due to the mercy rule.

Brady Neal had two singles, a triple and four RBIs to lead Young Township. Tanner Yard and Ian Satler added two singles each, and Mitchel Yard smacked a triple and a double and scored three runs.

“They had trouble finding the plate, and we were hitting the ball,” Young Township coach Barry Thomas said. “Brady Neal’s triple scored three runs, and we were just doing the things we were supposed to do.”

Winning pitcher Jarrett Geiger struck out six and walked three.

“He threw a really nice game for us,” Thomas said. “I think he only had to face around 20 batters, and I think (Marion Center) was having an off day, so it was good for us. We just hit the ball.”

Andrew Fox took the loss.

Young Township (7-4) visits Marion Center (2-8) today.
