Third-seeded Marion Center used timely hitting and a strong pitching effort from Matt Popovich to sweep second-seeded Punxsutawney with a win in Game 2 of the best-of-three semifinal series.

Marion Center (15-7) beat Punxsutawney, 4-2, in Game 1 on Thursday.

Adam Tomayko gave Marion Center a 2-1 lead when he drew a bases-loaded walk to score Luke Ruddock in the bottom of the fourth inning.

With the bases still loaded, C.J. Stiles cranked a three-run triple to stretch Marion Center’s lead to 5-1. Stiles finished 2-for-3.

“He’s on a roll this year,” Marion Center coach Joe Bunyak said. “He’s just an outstanding ballplayer. I’ve had him three years and he just keeps getting better every year.”

Jamie Bush singled twice to pace Punxsutawney.

Losing pitcher Cory Geer struck out eight, walked five and allowed six hits in six innings.

Punxsutawney concluded its season with a 14-7 record.
