YOUTH LEGION ROUNDUP: First-place Kovacik remains unbeaten

Ryan Shirley shut out Clymer Legion on one hit and Kovacik Insurance improved to 14-0 with an 11-0 victory in an Indiana County Youth Legion baseball game Friday evening in Clymer.

The game was shortened to five innings by the mercy rule.

Shirley struck out four and walked one in five innings.

Ricky Shirley doubled and Omar Ward had two hits for Kovacik.

Jimmy Lichtner struck out six and walked two in four innings, taking the loss. Austin Shirley recorded Clymer Legion’s only hit.

Kovacik plays host to Indiana Lions on Sunday. Clymer Legion (1-12) welcomes Walbeck Insurance on Monday.

YOUNG TOWNSHIP 7, MARION CENTER 1: Young Township dispatched Marion Center in a game at Bertolino Field.

Mitch Carr, Devin Fairman and Jared McComb had two hits each for Young Township.

Matt Gaston, Dylan Goss and Tyler McCunn had two hits each for Marion Center, which matched Young Township with eight hits.

Tyler Hill struck out two and walked five in 6 1-3 innings for the win.

Jordan Williams took the loss, with four strikeouts and four walks in three innings.

Young Township (10-5) plays host to S.W. Jack on Wednesday. Marion Center (5-7) visits S.W. Jack on Monday.
