CLARABELLE BEIGHLEY: Let's not lose sight of reason for schools
U.S. News and World Report earlier this month ranked the now-closed Elderton High School among the best high schools in the nation. The magazine ranked Elderton as 49th in the state and 1,501st nationally.
Joseph Close, president of the Armstrong school board, was quoted on the TribLive website as saying, “I am proud of the fact that they did that.”
He went on to say, “That’s the argument for the small schools — that it’s a better learning environment. The question is: Can you afford them?”
Mr. Close must have forgotten what a school is about. It is good education for our children, not some big building.
