Letter to the Editor: Culvert to blame for Rossiter runoff
I am a 60-year resident of Rossiter/Canoe Township. My concern is a serious problem of water runoff and flooding. This has been a constant concern for residents who live below Sunset Street in Rossiter.
We are all aware that heavy rains, and sometimes flooding rains, can occur in our area. The result of poor street drainage has caused and will continue to cause many thousands of dollars in damage.
The solution to this problem is good storm-water drainage. This is where the problem is.
There is an existing culvert with underground pipes that could carry stormwater all the way to the bottom of the hill. This is a great way for water to get where it’s going without damaging people’s property.
The unfortunate thing about this culvert is that no water can flow into it because it simply sticks up out of the ground so far that no runoff can get in.
This culvert and drain was a great project, but it is absolutely useless. It would benefit all concerned if our township supervisors would have a competent engineer study this problem and perhaps see if this culvert could be made useful in diverting water from Sunset Street.
