Letter to the Editor: Marion Center pulls together
Marion Center Borough recently completed an unprecedented road improvement project.
It involved a complete inventory of streets and alleys on the borough’s road system.
The inventory was completed with the assistance of PennDOT’s municipal representative for Indiana County.
The inventory included recommendations and estimates for maintenance and repairs that will provide an estimated five-year road life. The borough implemented the recommendations, which included grading road shoulders, repairing catch basins and storm drains as well as sealing or micro-surfacing virtually every street and alley in the borough.
The entire project was completed well under the estimated cost of $112,501 and involved borrowing $30,000 to be paid back over five years from the borough’s annual liquid fuels allocation from the state.
The project could not have been completed without help from across the community.
On behalf of the mayor and borough council, and at the risk of missing some, I’d like to take this opportunity to thank those who assisted in the effort.
They include the Methodist and Presbyterian churches, Marion Center Supply, the Marion Center Recreation Board and Marion Center Bank, all of whom offered use of their respective properties to store equipment and materials during the project.
Lastly, I’d like to thank the residents of Marion Center for their patience and cooperation while the work was being completed.
It is amazing what a small community can accomplish when everyone pulls together to make things happen.
