Letter to the Editor: Support makes veterans marathon a success

on December 22, 2013 1:50 AM

On Nov. 10, the second annual Indiana First Bank Veterans Marathon, Half Marathon and Marathon Relay were held on the Ghost Town Trail, beginning at Saylor Park in Black Lick. The event this year was again very successful and we, the co-race directors, would like to thank everyone involved for helping us continue to support our local veterans.

A heartfelt thank you goes to Indiana First Bank, major sponsor for the race. Thanks go also to the many mile sponsors for the donations of money and products, and to all the individuals and organizations for their assistance with pre-race and race day preparations, along with the many individuals and groups who volunteered their time and energy on race day.

Special thanks go to Ed Patterson and the crew with the Indiana County Parks and Trails and the Burrell Township supervisors. We gratefully acknowledge all the runners who participated.

The race proceeds benefit the Indiana County Veterans Assistance Fund. In our inaugural year, $11,000 was donated. This year we topped that figure and presented a check in the amount of $18,500 to Brenda Stormer of the Indiana County Veterans Affairs office. We are proud to be of assistance to our local veterans and thank them for their service.
