Letter to the Editor: Taking a measure of U.S. citizenship

on November 08, 2013 10:19 AM

How good of a citizen of the United States do you think you are? Honestly answer the following questions.

• As we watch the goings on in Washington, D.C., do many of you, my fellow citizens, believe that this is good for the United States of America?

• Can it be good for the country for its elected officials to falsely tell our fellow citizens they can sustain numerous and generous social programs for time infinitum?

• Do you like being treated as naive, foolish or stupid by those we elect?

• Do you like laws that exempt those who made the law, those we have elected?

• If all men are created equal, do you believe that any citizen should be exempted from Obamacare?

• Do you like being lied to or misled, especially by those we elect or hire?

• Do you like how politics overrides the best interest of the United States and its citizens?

• Do you believe in entitlements, set asides, tax-driven eminent domain?

• Are we protecting the rights of those in a minority in the legislative process?

• Do you believe that we support those who have served in the military the way our country should?

• Do you support ignoring properly passed laws because you disagree with them?

• Do you believe in executive orders?

• Do you believe that the U.S. Constitution is obsolete?

• Should our government try and be all things for all its citizens?

• Are you willing to actively support American policies that may be contrary to your self-interest?

After stimulating some thought with these questions, how good of an American citizen do now believe yourself to be?

P.S. If the politicians would change for the better tomorrow, the bureaucracy would still be here. Be afraid, be very afraid. They are not elected and have no allegiance except to the government.
