SAM DOTTS: Remember veterans, families

on May 26, 2013 3:00 AM

Memorial Day is a time when we honor the military personnel who have lost their lives fighting for our country in battle.

Let us not forget those who have come home from battle that have and suffered and passed at a later time due to effects of war.

Whether they suffered from chemical weapons such as Agent Orange and mustard gas; weapons of mass destruction (WMDs); improvised explosive devices (IEDs); other physical injuries; post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD); or other physical, mental and emotional effects of war, these men and women also should never be forgotten.

We should not forget the families and friends of these soldiers. They have suffered, too — some to the point of not being able to handle life.

So this weekend, if you know an active serviceman or servicewoman, a veteran, or a family who has lost a member due to war or while active in the military, smile and thank them.

They deserve this small little token of appreciation.
