Area man charged with sex offenses
PARKS TOWNSHIP — A Shelocta-area man charged earlier in the spring with harboring a 15-year-old girl now is accused of trying to rekindle a relationship with the girl after he posted bond and was released from jail.
Gregory Shaffer, 41, Stitts Run Road, Armstrong County, was charged this week by state police at Kittanning with sex felony offenses and has been lodged at the Armstrong County Jail with bond set at $75,000.
Authorities first charged Shaffer on April 24 with felony counts of concealing the whereabouts of a child and interference with custody of children, and a summary count of corruption of minors arising from incidents involving the teenaged girl.
Shaffer posted $20,000 bond for his release May 6, and on May 10 contacted the girl through Facebook — in violation of the conditions of his bond — and messaged her about sexual activities, troopers at Kittanning reported today.
According to a news release, Shaffer sent messages to the girl from May 15 through 21. Police charged him before District Judge James Owen, in Kittanning, with solicitation for statutory sexual assault, solicitation for involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, unlawful contact with a minor, corruption of minors, criminal use of a communication facility and obscene or other sexual materials and performances.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Wednesday.
Online court records show Shaffer waived his right to a hearing on the earlier charges on May 1 and awaits adjudication in Armstrong County Court.
