HENDERSON TOWNSHIP, JEFFERSON COUNTY — A 12-year-old boy was killed Saturday afternoon when he was hit by a compact track loader driven by his father.

State police at Punxsutawney said the accident happened about 5:15 p.m. as the father was operating a Bobcat loader on a private road along Route 410.

The boy was driving a horse-drawn wagon and inadvertently traveled behind the track loader and was struck and killed by the machine, according to police.

Police did not identify the victim or father. Jefferson County Coroner Bernard Synder pronounced the boy dead at the scene and said he would likely release the names of the father and boy today. State police were assisted at the accident scene by volunteer firefighters from Big Run.
