COOLING UNIT FIRE

by on May 17, 2013 11:00 AM

A compressor on a cooling unit at Hills of Home Farms in Rayne Township exploded Thursday morning, catching the roof of the farm building on fire, Marion Center fire Chief Rich Lydic said.

Firefighters from Marion Center, Plumville, Indiana and Creekside responded at 9:26 a.m. and spent about two hours extinguishing the fire. Clymer and Rural Valley were put on standby.

No one was hurt. Lydic said there is no damage estimate yet. This is the second time a cooler caused a fire at the farm; a cooling unit on the same building caught fire in April 2009.
