A Buffington Township woman is facing charges that she left her sons, aged 4 and 2, unsupervised while she slept.

According to state police in Indiana, Melissa Cassatt, no age given, is facing counts of endangering the welfare of children and recklessly endangering another person.

Police said that on one occasion, the 4-year-old walked out of his home in the morning and crossed Route 403 to visit his grandfather.

Police said Cassatt was asleep at the time.

On another occasion, the younger boy was found at home with a soiled diaper while his mother slept, police said.

Police said they were alerted to the situation by the children’s grandfather.

Cassatt was taken into custody and placed in Indiana County Jail to await arraignment.
