AVONMORE — Emergency responders from Indiana, Armstrong and Westmoreland counties were dispatched to the Avonmore Bridge area about midnight when it was reported that a group of four people had not been seen since they went boating on the Kiskiminetas River late Tuesday afternoon, officials said.

John Dice, the chief of the Saltsburg fire department, said the call for his department’s water rescue team was canceled before volunteers arrived at the scene, when they were told the missing boaters were safe and were not in the water.
