HOMER CITY DISTRICT COURT DOCKET

Numerous defendants have been named in criminal charges filed before Magisterial District Judge Susanne Steffee, of Homer City.

Criminal complaints and affidavits of probable cause are not evidence of guilt in a criminal case. Defendants are entitled to legal representation and have the right to question the witnesses and evidence presented against them during preliminary hearings in the district court and at trials in the county court of common pleas.

Charged were:

• Tera L. Jones, 30, Iselin Road, Saltsburg, charged March 26 by state police with theft by unlawful taking and a receiving stolen property between March 17 and 19 at 8420 Route 422, Armstrong Township. Police say Jones, an employee at BP gas station, removed currency from the cash register and took lottery tickets. Jones waived her right to a hearing and opted to face action in Indiana County Court.

• Catherine R. Mocek, 19, Walnut Street, Blairsville, charged March 26 by state police with possession of drug paraphernalia, DUI and four summary driving infractions at 7:27 p.m. Feb. 1 along Route 119, near the recycling center, Center Township.

Police observed a vehicle with an expired registration and initiated a traffic stop. Police detected the smell of marijuana, and Mocek failed field sobriety tests. A chemical test of blood showed positive for marijuana, court papers show. Mocek waived her right to a hearing and opted to face action in Indiana County Court.

• Michael N. Shelton, 21, Windber, Somerset County, charged March 31 by state police with criminal mischief and disorderly conduct March 8 at 100 Grove Lane, White Township.

Police say Shelton was denied entrance to a party at an apartment in The Grove complex, and he kicked the entry door, causing damage. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for June 30.

• Richard F. Shaffer, 39, Second Street, Graceton, charged April 1 by state police with DUI and five summary driving infractions at 2:45 a.m. March 14 along West Pike, at Meadow Lane, White Township. Police observed a vehicle with no rear lighting, weaving within the lane boundaries, and initiated a traffic stop. Shaffer had a blood alcohol content of 0.123 percent, court papers show. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Monday.

• Jacob I. Saylor, 21, of Eastham, Mass., charged April 2 by state police with DUI and three summary driving infractions at 2:45 a.m. March 24 along Route 286, near Anthony Road, Center Township.

Police responded to a single-vehicle accident. Saylor had a BAC of 0.215 percent, court papers show. Saylor waived his right to a hearing and opted to face action in Indiana County Court.

• Jessica B. Boyer, 32, Nanty Glo, Cambria County, charged April 4 by state police with theft by unlawful taking and issuing bad checks between Jan. 2 and June 10, 2013, at 14345 Route 422, Strongstown.

Police say Boyer, a former employee of the Strongstown General Store, wrote checks from a closed bank account on money borrowed from the store and later took cash. Boyer waived her right to a hearing and opted to face action in Indiana County Court.

• Michael R. Bungo, 25, Sharp Rock Road, Shelocta, charged April 4 by state police with DUI and two summary driving infractions at 7:50 a.m. March 22 along Route 56, at Waterman Road, Center Township.

Police investigated a one-vehicle crash. Bungo had a BAC of 0.22 percent, court papers show. Bungo waived his right to a hearing and opted to face action in Indiana County Court.

• George F. Sager, 49, Main Street, Blairsville, charged April 4 by state police with conspiracy — burglary, criminal trespass, theft by unlawful taking and receiving stolen property at 3 p.m. March 13 at a residence on Father Martin Teleson Lane, Cherryhill Township.

Police say the victim was away from home for an extended period of time. Sager entered the residence with a relative of the victim and removed $3,000 worth of change, jewelry, medication, cigarettes and other personal belongings. Sager waived his right to a hearing and opted to face action in Indiana County Court.

• Alexander G. Smith, 53, Bethel Church Road, Marion Center, charged April 5 by state police with possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance and receiving stolen property at 12:42 p.m. April 4 along Bethel Church Road, Rayne Township. While investigating a burglary case, police were informed that Smith exchanged cash and drugs for stolen merchandise. Police applied for a search warrant and found stolen items, drugs and cash. Smith waived his right to a hearing and opted to face action in Indiana Count Court.

• Romman P. Dilts, 28, Blairsville, charged April 6 by state police with burglary, criminal trespass, theft by unlawful taking and receiving stolen property between midnight and 10:34 p.m. April 2 at 117 Watertower Road, Burrell Township.

While investigating a report of stolen firearms, police were informed that Dilts was seen carrying multiple firearms into a residence. Dilts waived his right to a hearing and opted to face action in Indiana County Court.

• Robert J. Barris, 54, Warren Road, Indiana, charged April 7 by state police with possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance and possession of a controlled substance at 12:13 p.m. May 6, 2013, and at 1:45 p.m. June 3, 2013, at 3098 Warren Road, White Township.

On May 6, 2013, Barris sold 10 methadone and 15 oxycodone pills to an undercover state police officer for $345. On June 3, 2013, Barris sold 20 methadone pills to an undercover state police officer for $240. Barris waived his right to a hearing and opted to face action in Indiana County Court.

CASES ADJUDICATED

• A retail theft charge against Nikelle T. Robinson, 19, Philadelphia, filed April 8, was dismissed May 12.

• Theft by deception and theft from a motor vehicle charges against Cory M. Santiago, 26, Homer City, filed March 7, were withdrawn April 14.

• Receiving stolen property and possession of prohibited firearm charges against Tony R. Grady, 25, Blairsville, filed March 7, were withdrawn March 17.
