PITTSBURGH (AP) — A western Pennsylvania defense contractor with longstanding ties to the late U.S. Rep. John Murtha was raided by agents with the Internal Revenue Service’s Defense Criminal Investigative Services division.

The agency raiding Concurrent Technologies Corp. near Johnstown has targeted other defense businesses linked to Murtha, a powerful Democrat who died in February 2010, charging their owners with defrauding the government in kickback schemes.

Tuesday’s raid was announced by the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Pittsburgh and confirmed by a Concurrent spokeswoman, who told The Associated Press that the company’s facilities remained temporarily off limits to most employees. She said the company is “not aware of the nature of the visit” by investigators.

Concurrent has received hundreds of millions dollars’ worth of defense contracts, but recently began working with the Mint in Philadelphia on ways to produce cheaper pennies.
