Kittanning woman killed in house fire

KITTANNING — A Kittanning woman was overcome by smoke and died last night as fire swept through her house along Sirwell Street, the Armstrong County coroner’s office reported.

Coroner Brian Myers said Sharon Mangus, 54, was found inside the house and died from smoke inhalation.

A man escaped the burning house and was sent to Armstrong County Memorial Hospital for treatment, according to Myers’ news release.

The man’s name was not released.

The alarm came in at 11:05 p.m., according to the Armstrong County 911 center.

The Kittanning No. 1, No. 4 and No 6 fire companies, the Rayburn Township and Kittanning Township fire departments, the Kittanning No. 6 ambulance, Kittanning Borough police and several utility company crews responded to the fire. Authorities called for the coroner’s office at 1:07 a.m.

Myers reported a state police fire marshal is investigating the cause of the fire.
