PITTSBURGH (AP) — Authorities in Pittsburgh are investigating the death of a city resident who jumped into the Monongahela River during a boat party.

The Allegheny County medical examiner’s office said Sean Gittins, 23, drowned Sunday morning.

The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported Gittins had been with a group of people on a boat docked along the river.

A spokesman for the medical examiner said Gittins decided to take an early morning swim around 4 a.m. but did not immediately resurface.

His friends called for help, and authorities later found Gittins in the water. He was pronounced dead at a hospital around 6 a.m.
