BLACKLICK TOWNSHIP — A Blairsville man was injured Saturday when the pickup truck he was driving hit a tree along Route 286 near Jewel Road, state police reported.

Troopers at Indiana said Donald Cunkelman, 54, lost control of the vehicle while experiencing a medical problem. Cunkelman’s Ford Explorer Sport Trac veered off the side of the highway several times before it hit several mailboxes, traveled into a culvert and then hit a tree. Cunkelman did not use a seat belt, according to police.

Lifestat Ambulance paramedics treated Cunkelman at the scene before he was sent by helicopter to UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh. A spokeswoman said this morning Cunkelman was in fair condition.

The Aultman fire department assisted police at the scene of the accident.
