Threats and assault

An Indiana man turned himself in to police Sunday after being charged with threatening and assaulting an older man Friday, state police in Indiana reported.

Michael Clair Markel Jr., 20, was held in the Indiana County Jail to await arraignment.

Police said he threatened to burn down the home of a family member, identified only as a 42-year-old Indiana man, made as if to throw a stone at him, then hit him, wrestled him to the ground and shoved his face against a sidewalk. The incident occurred between 2:40 and 2:45 p.m. Friday in the 400 block of Fleming Road, according to police.

Police said the family member sustained minor injures, and Markel fled the scene. Police said he faces charges of terroristic threats, two counts of simple assault and harassment.

Criminal mischief

State police in Indiana reported a known suspect threw a 24-ounce bottle of Gatorade at Shannon Allison’s vehicle at 9:27 p.m. Friday at a home in the 600 block of North Fifth Avenue, causing a minor scratch on the driver’s side door.

Someone driving a tan or beige Nissan Frontier backed into a parked vehicle at 1100 Philadelphia St. around 8:45 p.m. Friday, then fled the scene, Indiana Borough police reported.

Theft

Someone stole a laundry cart and a large Nationwide Insurance clock from Maloney’s Laundry, 34 S. 11th St. Rear, between 10 and 11 p.m. May 12, Indiana Borough police reported.

Criminal mischief

Indiana Borough police reported someone threw a Bud Light bottle at the rear window of a blue Ford Taurus parked in the back lot of 1005 Wayne Ave. between 9 p.m. Thursday and 8:15 a.m. Friday.

The window was damaged, police reported.

Criminal mischief

Someone knocked over four portable toilets at Dog Hollow Speedway between 10:30 p.m. Thursday and 6:30 a.m. Friday, state police in Indiana reported.

ARMAGH

Identity theft

State police in Indiana are investigating a report of identity theft in which the victims’ personal information was used to obtain credit cards and purchase items last April, according to a police report.

No further information was released.

SOUTH BEND TOWNSHIP, ARMSTRONG COUNTY

Theft

Someone stole a 42-inch flat screen television from an unsecured sun porch at 233 Windy Flats Road between 8:30 p.m. Tuesday and 8 a.m. Wednesday, state police in Kittanning reported. The television belonged to John Vincent Dye, 41, of South Bend Township.

DERRY TOWNSHIP, WESTMORELAND COUNTY

DUI

State police in Greensburg arrested an unnamed 41-year-old man after a traffic stop on suspicion of DUI around 1:45 a.m. Sunday. He had a blood alcohol level of 0.107 percent, according to police reports.

Simple assault

State police in Greensburg reported Justin Urban, 31, of Derry, was assaulted around 3 a.m. Sunday on Seger Road. No further information was reported.

Drug charges

A 53-year-old Indiana County woman was found to be in possession of a controlled substance during a traffic stop at 5:50 p.m. April 14, state police in Greensburg reported. The woman was not identified.

Hit-and-run

An unknown driver crossed the centerline on Route 982 at High Street around 9:45 p.m. Saturday, hitting the back fender and bumper of a vehicle driven by Richard M. Palek, 48, of Latrobe, state police in Greensburg reported. The unknown driver then fled the scene, according to police.

YOUNG TOWNSHIP, JEFFERSON COUNTY

Harassment

State police in Punxsutawney charged Mark A. Rand Jr., 23, and Tyler A. Dotts, 20, both of Punxsutawney, with harassment around 1:15 p.m. May 6 on Universal Drive. Police said each man threatened the other.
