GREENSBURG — State police opened investigations into the deaths of two women, whose bodies were discovered in their homes in Derry Township over the past week.

Troopers reported Lisa Varrato, 56, of New Alexandria, was found dead in a bedroom of her home along Route 981 at 11:30 p.m. Saturday, and possibly had suffered an overdose of prescribed medicine.

Brenda Comunal, 49, of Loyalhanna, was found dead at 8 a.m. Thursday in a bedroom of her home at an undisclosed location in the township, according to a report.

A spokeswoman at the Westmoreland County coroner’s office reported the causes of the women’s deaths have not been determined, and that the office is awaiting results of toxicology tests in both cases.
