A state police trooper at the Indiana barracks was critically injured when he collided with a deer while he was on his motorcycle early Friday morning in Ocean Isle Beach, N.C.

Ocean Isle Beach police chief John Goodwin said this morning that Josiah Murdock remained in critical condition, last he heard.

He said the accident occurred around 12:30 a.m. Friday, and that Murdock was wearing a helmet.

According to WWAY TV in North Carolina, Murdock and a group of friends were in the area for Bike Week, and that they were about 500 feet from a home where they were staying on East Fourth Street when the accident occurred.

Murdock suffered head injuries, WWAY TV reported.

State police in Indiana did not have information to report this morning.
