Two people were assaulted and robbed in a pair of attacks only a few minutes and a block apart early today, according to Indiana police.

At approximately 2 a.m., a male victim, not identified by police, was assaulted and robbed by two men while he was walking into a fitness center at 655 Church St. Police said as the victim entered the building, he was pushed down a flight of steps, punched and hit on the head with a glass liquor bottle.

The victim’s wallet was stolen, and the assailants escaped in an unknown direction.

Police described the suspects as two black males. Investigators said one suspect is about 6 feet tall with a medium build and in his early 20s and possibly had a goatee.

He was wearing a white T-shirt and a black hat with a red brim.

The second suspect is also in his early 20s, with a heavier build and possibly with orange facial hair, according to police.

About 10 minutes later a female walking near the intersection of South Carpenter Avenue and Gompers Avenue was attacked by a man, police said. She was not identified by police. Her cellphone and purse were stolen, and the attacker escaped in an unknown direction.

Police described the suspect in the second assault as a college-age black male, about 5 feet 7 inches tall with short hair. He was wearing either an orange jacket or an orange sweatshirt.
