Woman dies in house fire near Rural Valley

COWANSHANNOCK TOWNSHIP – A Rural Valley area woman was overcome by smoke and died as fire swept through her house early today, the Armstrong County coroner’s office reported.

Volunteer firefighters found the victim, Regina Dawn Pearce, inside the back door of her home along Old Route 85, about one mile east of Rural Valley, according to a news release issued today by Coroner Brian Myers.

Pearce, 45 was pronounced dead at the scene at 5:45 a.m.

Myers said she died from smoke inhalation, and he ruled the death an accident.

The Rural Valley, Dayton, Kittanning No. 6 and Plumville fire departments and Citizens’ Ambulance Service responded to the blaze. A state police fire marshal is investigating for the cause, Myers reported.
