Woman guilty in infant death
SUNBURY (AP) — A judge has found a 65-year-old Pennsylvania grandmother guilty of charges stemming from the death of her baby granddaughter who was in her care.
Bertha Dreese, of Sunbury, was found guilty Tuesday of involuntary manslaughter and related counts in the October 2010 death of 1-year-old Aneela Loner.
The child died of heat exposure after being left alone in a crib for nearly 20 hours next to a space heater operating on high.
Northumberland County Judge Robert Sacavage plans to sentence Dreese within 20 days.
The baby’s parents, Heidi Yocum and Lopaka Loner, pleaded guilty in 2011 to reckless endangerment and child endangerment and were sentenced to prison time.
