BLACKLICK TOWNSIP — The Indiana County Coroner’s Office said a yet-unidentified woman died Sunday evening in a motorcycle crash on Route 217 near the intersection of Hill Road.

According to the coroner, a Yamaha motorcycle driven by James Seelig, of Gulf Breeze, Fla., was traveling south on Route 217 about 8:26 p.m. when it struck a deer. Seelig lost control of the cycle and both he and his female passenger were thrown from the motorcycle.

Chief Deputy Coroner Jerry Overman pronounced the female victim dead at the scene at 9:07 p.m. The woman was wearing a helmet but suffered blunt-force trauma to the head, according to Overman. An autopsy is scheduled today at Memorial Medical Center in Johnstown.

Seelig was flown from the scene by medical helicopter to Memorial Medical Center. No information was available on his condition this morning.

Firefighters from Blairsville and Black Lick assisted at the scene and state police at the Indiana station are investigating the crash.

Anyone who is able to assist in identifying the female passenger is asked to call the Indiana County Coroner’s Office at (724) 465-3996.
