Woman pleads guilty to drug charge
A Carrolltown woman has pleaded guilty to her part in a marijuana-growing operation in Cambria County.
Judy Bender, 49, of 609 Dutch Road, pleaded guilty before U.S. District Judge Kim R. Gibson to one count of conspiracy to manufacture and possess marijuana plants, U.S. Attorney David J. Hickton announced Thursday.
Bender was accused of conspiring to manufacture and possess between 100 and 1,000 marijuana plants in the spring of 2011 as a member of George M. Lowmaster’s drug distribution organization.
She was indicted along with 12 other Pennsylvania residents and two Ohio residents on July 12, 2011.
Prosecutors said the organization grew and sold marijuana, cocaine, oxycodone and methadone out of Cambria County and laundered the proceeds.
Sentencing is scheduled for Oct. 24. She faces up to 40 years in prison, a fine of $5 million or both.
