APOLLO-RIDGE: Students create gingerbread houses

SPRING CHURCH -- There is Christmas spirit in the air at Apollo-Ridge Elementary School. We are having some very fun Christmas events and activities. Students in our school always have fun this time of year.

Each year the fifth-grade classes create gingerbread houses. Cardboard frames were made and covered by our generous PTA. Groups then brought in candy to decorate the houses. They were put on display in the front lobby. All students could then vote for their favorite by donating a nonperishable food item. All donations were given to the Apollo Area Food Bank. Corey Taylor, Emma Rametta, Ryan Pasternak, Delaney Tevelonis and Kristin Womeldorf were the winners!

On Dec. 12, the fourth- and fifth-grade elementary chorus participated in the yearly Christmas concert, "Jingle All The Way." Chorus members give up one recess a week to practice for the show. Music instructor Rebecca Snyder worked hard to make the concert happen and their hard work paid off. After the concert there was a sing-a-long for all students. Elementary student council members stayed after school to decorate the Christmas tree that is on display in the front lobby. Building secretary Kim Akins helped make the tree beautiful and brought treats to enjoy when they were finished.

Elementary art instructor Hsiao Busch led the search for this year's district holiday greeting card. Students submitted entries to be judged and the winner was fifth-grader Megan Lentz from Afton Dobrosky's homeroom. She worked very hard to get her drawing on the card. Fantastic job, Megan!

Apollo-Ridge Elementary students try very hard to get people into the Christmas spirit. We combine fun with learning to get us all involved. We want to wish everybody a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year from everybody at Apollo-Ridge Elementary School.
