MARION CENTER — On Feb. 16, Marion Center Area High School hosted a dodgeball tournament in the high school gym. It started at 10 a.m. and all money raised from admission and the concession stand will be put towards prom.
The event was organized and sponsored by the junior class officers: Chantel Glasser, president; Matt Janosko, vice president; Jennifer Irvin, treasurer; Chasity Hankinson, secretary; and Gena Anthony, class sponsor. Proceeds from the tournament will go towards funding Marion Center’s prom, which will be held at the Kovalchick Convention and Athletic Complex on May 10.
The tournament was divided in to three age divisions: fourth through sixth grades, seventh through ninth grades and 10th grade to adult. There were 22 teams (with eight people each) registered: seven teams in fourth through sixth grades; 13 teams in seventh through ninth grades; and two teams in the adult age group.
The winning team in the fourth- through sixth-grade division was the Sitting Ducks from Indiana Area Junior High School with members Joseph McCracken, Grant Harkelroad, Chase Cunningham, Alec Petrof, Nick Hilliard, Justin Raibble, Austin Homer and Miklya Bajwa.
The winning team in the seventh- through ninth-grade division was the Trojans from Saltsburg Middle/High School with members Ricky Tondaric, Tanner Yard, Noah Zimmerman, Austin Morris, Tyler Anderson, Steve Evans, Frankie Plowman and Jordan Booth.
The winning team in the 10th grade through adult age division was from Marion Center Area High School. Members were Jason Cribbs, Tyler Doolin, Steven DeFelice, Austin DeFelice, Tommy Lyttle, Nick Paulina, Blake Orr and Matt McNevin.
Winning teams were awarded trophies and a full refund of their registration fee of $80. Honorably, the winners from Saltsburg and Indiana donated their winnings to the Marion Center junior class.
