PUNXSUTAWNEY — The PMEA District Jazz Band Festival was held Feb. 14-15 at Union High School in Rimersburg. The three students who attended the festival were junior Shane Beichner, freshman Julia Voris and sophomore Sarah Johnston, all performing in the red or white band. There are three bands total in District Jazz: the red, white and blue band.

The bands were chosen through auditions and this then determined which seat the student would be in and their band placement.

“I was excited for District Jazz,” said Beichner. “I got to meet new people and the music was swinging.”

The two students who were in the top red band were Beichner for the trombone and Voris for the alto saxophone.

“It was a great experience,” said Johnston “The variety of music was great.”

Johnston was the lead player on the alto saxophone for the second-tier white band.

Emcees for Variety Show selected

The 2013 emcees were recently selected for the 2012-13 class variety show, “It’s Our Time,” at Punxsutawney Area High School after the students auditioned. This year’s show will be held at 7:30 p.m. April 11-13 in the auditorium. The emcees for this year are Sarah London, Caroline Dunkel, Alex Anderson, Maija Carol and Trevor Peace.

Sarah London is the daughter of Dave and Mary Kay London, of Big Run.

“I think we have a really great and funny group this year,” said London. “I’m looking forward to working with my fellow cast mates to put on a great show!”

Caroline Dunkel is the daughter of Tom and Kim Dunkel, of Punxsutawney.

“I’m really looking forward to working with everyone,” said Dunkel. “I’m also extremely excited to start putting the show together.”

Alex Anderson is the son of Bruce and Georgia Colberg, of Glen Campbell.

“I was really ecstatic whenever I found out that I was chosen to be an emcee,” said Anderson. “I think this is going to be the best show yet.”

Maija Carol is the daughter of Richard and Thalia Carol, of Punxsutawney.

“I am so excited to be an emcee,” said Carol. “I am really looking forward to working with the other emcees and my entire senior class to create a great variety show!”

Trevor Peace is the son of Brad and Tina Peace, of Reynoldsville.

“The variety show is going to be awesome,” said Peace. “We’re going to be so funny!”

Plan to attend and enjoy the variety of different skits created and performed by this year’s emcees and the other members of 2013 senior class.
