ARMAGH — State police in Indiana have asked for help in locating a 60-year-old woman who is accused of stealing at least $71,230 from her aunt over the last 3ᄑ years.

According to police, Sheryl Lynn Bostian, of 866 W. Philadelphia St., Armagh, violated the trust placed in her when she accepted the power of attorney for her aunt, Laverne Walrath, 85, in July 2009.

Police said that between then and fall of 2012, Walrath’s accounts were depleted, a fact that came to the attention of Aging Services Inc. staff, who reported the matter to state police in mid-January.

Police said that when they examined Walrath’s bank records, they found roughly $127,500 of withdrawal activity in her accounts under Bostian’s stewardship.

Prior to that, there had been much less activity, police said.

Investigators also said they found several deposits into Bostian’s personal checking account that coincide with withdrawals made from Walrath’s accounts.

Bostian is facing three felony counts, one each of receiving stolen property, theft by unlawful taking and theft by deception. A warrant for her arrest has been issued.

Anyone with information on her whereabouts has been asked to call state police at (724) 357-1960.
