YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio — The YMCA of Indiana County Piranhas swim team placed third at the YMCA District Swimming Championships, which were held over the weekend at Youngstown State University.
Indiana’s girls’ team finished second, and the boys’ team placed fifth.
Anna Paccapaniccia broke a pair of team records in the 100 and 200 breaststrokes for girls in the 15 to 18 age bracket.
Adam Gordish also broke a team record in the 200 butterfly for boys in the 15 to 18 age category, and Madeline Menta broke a team record in the 50 backstroke for girls ages 8 and under.
Grant Hess, Ben Peng, Frank Bevevino and Noah Schwartz made up the school record-breaking 200 medley relay team for boys ages 13 to 14.
Also, the girls’ 200 medley and 200 freestyle relay teams, which were both in the 15 to 18 age division, each broke team records. The 200 medley relay team consisted of Jayde Resnick, Paccapaniccia, Krista Gibbon and Abbey O’Neal, and the 200 freestyle relay team consisted of Gibbon, Eliza O’Neal, Gabby Bobak and Abbey O’Neal.
Those who qualified for the state championships, which will be held March 22 to 24 at Penn State University, are: Bevevino, Lauren Bertig, Bobak, Parker Fanella, Kara Gibbon, Krista Gibbon, Gordish, Jon Haycock, Gage Hess, Grant Hess, Logan Hess, Kyle Ickes, Harley Kessler, Mackenzie Kessler, Lauren Krecota, Olivia Kuzneski, Anna Manges, Sophie Manges, Menta, Abbey O’Neal, Eliza O’Neal, Paccapaniccia, Ben Peng, Daniel Peng, Kimber Randolph, Payton Rayko, Resnick, Michaela Ruddock, Ceci Sherwood, Samantha Sneddon and Kevin Zheng.
