CENTER TOWNSHIP : A vehicle driven by Walter Cope, 81, of Indiana, collided head-on with a vehicle driven by Edward Rura, 52, of Homer City, on the shoulder of Route 56 near Route 954 around 9 p.m. Wednesday, state police in Indiana reported.

Police said Cope was traveling west in an eastbound lane at the time of the accident, and that Rura pulled on to the shoulder to try to avoid him. Rura was transported to Indiana Regional Medical Center by Citizens’ Ambulance Service, where he was treated and released, according to hospital officials. Police said alcohol was a factor in the crash.

Brush Valley and Homer City Volunteer Fire Departments assisted at the scene.
