IUP’s Alexa Campbell tossed a complete-game shutout in Game 2 of a doubleheader, helping the Crimson Hawks take a pair of games from Slippery Rock and Merrimack at the National Training Center Spring Games on Thursday in Clermont, Fla.
IUP defeated Slippery Rock, 5-4, in Game 1 before blanking Merrimack, 8-0, in Game 2.
In Game 1, IUP’s Ashley Strack ripped a two-run single in the fifth inning to give the Crimson Hawks a 5-2 lead.
IUP broke a 0-0 tie by plating eight runs in the top of the seventh inning against Merrimack. Jasa Mitchell highlighted the rally for the Crimson Hawks with a two-run single.
Campbell, a sophomore, struck out five, walked none and allowed six hits.
IUP wraps up the NTC Spring Games with a doubleheader against Indiana Tech today.
TENNIS: IUP snapped a two-match losing skid by blanking Millersville, 9-0, at the Hilton Head Beach and Tennis Resort.
The doubles teams of Tanya Timko and Emilia Osborne and Alanna McFail and Abby McCormick each notched 8-0 wins. Katie Eaton and Erika Schnaas earned an 8-3 win.
In singles play, Eaton, Osborne and McFail each notched 6-0, 6-0 wins. Also, McCormick, Schnaas and Ranvita Matho each tacked on wins.
IUP (4-6) takes on William Jewell today.
