IUP TENNIS: Hawks knock off Mercyhurst

ERIE — IUP picked up four wins in singles play to help secure a 6-3 victory over Mercyhurst in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference West Division women’s tennis match Tuesday afternoon at the Penn Briar Athletic Club.

The Crimson Hawks won their fourth straight match and improved to 7-6. Mercyhurst fell to 10-2.

IUP took a 2-1 lead in doubles play, with Tanya Timko and Emilia Osborne teaming up for a win at No. 2 doubles, and Abby McCormick and Alanna McFail followed suit in the third spot.

In singles, Timko, Osborne and Ranvita Mahto won in straight sets, and Erika Schnaas won in three.

IUP plays Wayne State on Thursday and Grand Valley State on Friday in Canton, Ohio.
