The IUP women’s lacrosse team matched the best start in school history with a 22-12 win over previously unbeaten Millersville in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference game Wednesday.
IUP improved to 4-0, matching the 2000 team as the only ones to start the season with four straight wins in the 16-season history of the Crimson Hawks’ program.
Nursing a 10-8 halftime lead, IUP broke the game open by outscoring Millersville 12-4 in the second half.
In the opening half, after Millersville (4-1) took an early 3-1 lead, IUP reeled off six straight goals to take the lead for good.
Four IUP players scored four goals apiece, including Alexa Lodovici, who paced the Crimson Hawks with 10 points. She scored four goals and recorded six assists. On defense, she added six ground balls.
Michelle Zakrzewski, Drew Hayden and Colleen Berlin also had four goals apiece for IUP.
Taylor Norwood had five draw controls and created two turnovers, and goalie Chelsey Hipp played 40 minutes and notched the win. Backup goalie Kaitlin Sterling made five saves in 20 minutes.
IUP outshot Millersville, 48-21, recording 24 shots in each half.
IUP travels to Edinboro on Saturday.
